| Would you Support the legalization of marijuana? |
Marijuana legislation in Wisconsin is not as simple as “legal” or “illegal”. The entire issue needs to be broken into three segments; Industrial Hemp, Medical Marijuana and Social Marijuana.
Industrial Hemp
Industrial Hemp is one of the world’s strongest, versatile, hearty and naturally growing plants on earth. Even though this plant is not able to be consumed for personal recreation, it is still illegal to grow, harvest and sell. Wisconsin needs to see past this uneducated stigma and start benefiting from this powerful rotation crop and the many uses it offers. If elected I will fully support getting Industrial Hemp off the list of illegal drugs in the State of Wisconsin.

Medical Marijuana
There are too many Wisconsinites suffering from illnesses that require expensive medications. Some of these synthetic, lab created drugs are so expensive that patients cannot afford to buy them and live life with untreated illnesses. Medical Marijuana has been proven to yield benefits for numerous and common illnesses that are just too long to list. Visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_cannabis for a full list of medical uses. I would be willing to work with fellow legislators to make this natural drug available through prescriptions. If elected I will support sensible and intelligent legislation to make Medical Marijuana available to those who need it most.
Social Marijuana
I personally don’t see any problem with responsible citizens consuming marijuana privately in the privacy of their own homes. I will stand for the decriminalization of marijuana for personal use as long as the following restrictions and details are included in the legislation: |
-No person receiving State or Federal aid in the form of entitlement programs will be allowed to posses or consume marijuana. If a person is unable to find gainful employment or support their family without State or Federal Assistance, they have no business consuming a recreational drug.
-Wisconsin Employers will retain the right to privately drug test employees to maintain a drug free environment if desired. As it should be a person’s right to consume marijuana, it should also be an employer’s right to have a drug free workforce.
-Even if marijuana is decriminalized Statewide, Counties should still be able to reserve the right to say no to marijuana if so desired by county residents in the form of a referendum. This would be similar to “Dry Counties” and would be enforced through fines and or confiscation.
-Commercial Sales of marijuana should be both regulated and taxed. However, I would not allow the sales to be taxed at the state level. Taxation should be at the County level and should only be allowed to be used toward community projects that serve all citizens equally. If a community is willing to accept the sales of marijuana they should also benefit directly from the revenue instead of the State collecting and redistributing as they see fit.
-Private Citizens should be allowed to grow reasonable amounts for the purpose of personal consumption. Similar to our current laws for home brewers of alcohol.
-Marijuana would be treated in the same manner as we treat alcohol today.
