| Do you support Gay Marriage? |
I do not support the idea that Gay Marriages should recognized by the State. Same sex couples should register their partnership as a Civil Union is they so desire. On the opposite side of the coin, I not support the idea that Straight Marriages should be recognized by the State either. Opposite Sex Couples should also register their partnership as a Civil Union is they so desire.
The root of the argument between Right to Marry Groups and those who oppose same-sex marriage is the fact the State “owns” the right and defines the requirements. By recording the relationship between all voluntarily committed adult couples as a Civil Union with the State, everyone receives equal treatment and no one’s definition of Marriage is questioned. When two consenting adults enter a committed relationship, it should be between them and whom ever they choose to include. Whatever, they personally call this committed relationship is their business.
Having all committed relationships between adults recorded with the State as Civil Unions allows everyone access to marital benefits and rights. Everyone who is committed to and loves another individual shouldn’t be denied these basic rights.
Jim Doyle’s current Domestic Partnership Registry was nothing but an appeasement to a voting block. His law didn’t create equality. It created a more defined segregation and those satisfied by it are only accepting themselves as second class citizens.
